Jen wrote me a letter (because back then, that’s what you did when you needed to get in touch with someone…) saying that she was thinking of coming to France for a quick visit. Could we hook up?

HELL YES! I was out of my mind excited to have a friend from home to talk to, hang out with. I won’t go into the details, but let’s just say that my living situation was not the happiest at the time.

Birthday ABCs for Neiman

I clearly remember the day that Jen first bounced into my life – literally.  It was in early January 1984 and I had recently posted the audition information for the spring musical “Once Upon a Mattress”.  I had chosen the show because it had a large cast, but there was one part that I was worried about casting, the Jester.  I didn’t know how I was going to find a student with the energy, voice and presence to carry off the role.  

Random memories about Jen.

I remember meeting you for the first time in Cambridge.  Your neighbor Heather (I won't go there) brought you into our (HER) bookclub by inviting you to a meeting. You were pregnant with Ruby and Heather was pregnant with Ian.  The competition only began there for Heather.  :)

I was struck by how sweet and warm you were and by your soft voice.  I instantly wanted to know you better.

Here are some of the things I learned...

Imagine my brother's luck to stumble upon you (with the help of friends, and geography, and probably some fate) and have the incredible good forture to make you his wife! You are you beautiful, possess a razor sharp intellect and a sense of humor to match and hold your own with the sports that he has dedicated himself to for 25 years. The Gottlieb's have been blessed by your addition to the family (not to mention giving us some great babies!).
