Jen and RubyWe called it "The Plan." Some how, some way, our two lives would converge in one place, and we'd all live happily ever after. I don't remember when or where we'd originally conceived of it. Probably over a tasty organic meal in the Rodale cafeteria. (Back then, I think the plan included Emmaus, PA!) But as our lives evolved, so did our Plan and somehow, one day we made it a reality!
This picture, to me, is like the culmination of all the hours spent on the phone talking about what it would be like. There you were, days after we brought Aly home from the hospital. Exactly as we'd planned. Sharing in each others lives.
I still find it amazing that we didn't become close until senior year because I feel like I've known you my whole life. It doesn't matter how many months go by between visits -- on the phone or in person...you are (in the words of Meredith Gray...yes, really) my person. A touchstone, a reality check and voice of reason. A shoulder to cry on and a kindered spirit. You are an exceptional individual Mrs. Gottlieb and I am so happy for you and the life you've created with Seth and your gorgeous children.
And tho the plan didn't hold up as well as we wanted, we've still been able to share in each others lives -- the highs and lows -- albeit from a distance. I can't express adequately how much that means to me.
And, hey, we've still got plenty of years ahead to work up a new Plan. There's always Boca!
I love you and wish you nothing but the best. Happy Birthday my dear friend!
