I don't have a specific funny story from our 15 year friendship.  That's not to say we haven't had plenty of laughs, because we certainly have.  We bonded early over the absurdity of even thinking that it might matter socially which high school we graduated from.  You even coined the term "bridge" to describe two non-BCC folk becoming friends with one another.  It felt like getting a direct flight from Cincinnati to Minneapolis without having to stop in Detroit.  I'm thankful to John and Carin and Deb for so much, and especially for giving you and me an opportunity to meet and become friends.

You have a terrific flair for words and I remember feeling that instantly.  We can go back and forth, pulling in references and plays on words, and just laugh.  I love that we can do that.  You totally make me have to raise my game, and I never feel like I have to explain or give references.  It's always such a treat to talk to you.

When you quit working for the man and started jngcommunications, I admired that move so much.  I remember you'd said that some day you and Seth might have kids and that having your own business would be more flexible for a working mom.  I couldn't believe you were planning so far ahead!  I had never thought of that in a million years, even when I was pregnant a couple of years after you'd been in business for yourself.  It wasn't until Viant imploded when Joe was 2 weeks old that I really truly understood how brilliant you'd been to get that business going when you did.  I really admire how you've tried to balance work and family.  I know there's so much pressure on moms these days, and I imagine Northampton has a lot of overeducated know-it-alls like Ann Arbor does.  You seem like such a terrific mom, and I really admire you for that.

I'm sure your house is really cute too.  Remember what Carin said at your wedding?  When she and I were strolling around Northampton going in and out of shops, we saw so many super-cute stationery and gift shops.  We came across some hand-made paper and cute frames and Carin looked at them, looked at me and said, "I get Jen now."  It was so spot-on because you do have a unique and contemporary aesthetic sense.  You always threw fantastic parties, and besides all the great food I remember great details such as how you arranged the place settings, or had the buffet set up in a fun way.

Now that I know how the 40s are with my several weeks of experience, I want to pass on some wisdom:  40 Kicks Butt!  I am digging being 40 and surprising all the college kids I work with.  "You're FORTY?  No way!"  I love that, and I know people will do that to you too.  I think you're absolutely great, and I am still figuring out how we can see each other one day!  Have a fantastic celebration.  I also want you to know how terrific I think you and Seth both are.  You seem made for each other, and I toast you both!
